The Influencial Woman

 Acts 9:39

Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

Quotable Quotes

You will only be remembered for two things, the problems you solved or the ones you created.

Mike Murdock

Influence means the power to affect, control or manipulate something or someone;..

We are Going to look at a very simple woman in the Bible whose name is Dorcas or Tabitha. I chose her because many people think you must be in leadership position or be extremely wealthy before you can be able to make impact or  influence in your family, community or nation.

Dorcas was just an average woman who was probably a widow herself.

She was able to affect the lives of widows and women in her community to the point that when she died they refused to accept it. The widows went out of their way and did the unimaginable. They  looked for Apostle Peter to raise her back to life. They said Dorcas cannot die because no one has the capacity to do what she did for them. So until God raise another Dorcas among them. She is not permitted to die. What a woman! May God make us the Dorcas of our  time in Jesus name!

Some of us our neighbour's are eager and looking forward to when we will move out to a different community or be transferred. It's not a good testimony. What impact is your life making in the place where God has put you, be it in your compound, neighborhood, community and society at large. Whose lives are you affecting? Are you just oppressing them and  peppering them with what you have? The essence of God's gift and blessings is for impact. God does not waste his resources. He is a business man. He blessed you in order to bless others until it gets to everyone. Ecclesiastes 5:9 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

What coat and garment(testimony, evidence or good deed) will people show to God to intercede for you when you are in trouble or asking for more of his blessings on your life, like the widows showed Peter the coat Dorcas made for them. Reverend Funke Felix Adejumo shared this story of when her husband escaped an accident and they were holding the Thanksgiving service. widows in her church came out crying and thanking God on her behalf saying

"Mummy God will never allow you to be part of Us"

What a Legacy, she has so impacted them that, like Dorcas their prayers and intercession stopped the hands of death from snatching her husband. Don't be deceived or disappointed kindness still pays.

My dear Sister, Impact is not in wealth and power alone . Start from where you are with what you have. Show  kindness, Relate with people in your neighborhood in the way it shows you care, Live in peace with all people, Smile with people, wave at people, share your wisdom with others. Make a difference in the lives of people you come in contact with.

I have a personal philosophy that atleast one person must tell me thank you everyday. Appreciating me isn't the goal. But the real goal is to touch lives every day like our master Jesus, who went about doing good.

Acts 10:38

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Living a life of influence will benefit you in no small way. It earns you respect, Honour, transgenerational favour and many more blessings.

Bible says in Proverbs 16:7, When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

For example I've never looked for something or assistance within the neighborhood that I didn't get. People are always willing to help whenever I need their assistance in one way or the other. Because I relate with them well and offer assistance to those that need it all the time. In essence, You reap what you sow. Other's call it KARMA.

Let me close with the story of my own biological Mom. When Boko Haram invaded Mubi, in Adamawa state where I lived with my mom before I got married . Everybody fled and left everything. The few people that didn't go anywhere were old Muslim Men and women. So Boko Haram looted houses and when they came to our house. An old imam in front of our house stopped them from entering my mother's house. He told them that this is his  daughters house, they can't enter. And That was how he saved her house. My mom's house was surrounded by Muslims left, right and center but she lived peaceful with them.. She cooks for them during Ramadan and they also shared things with her.

Like Dorcas, May our lives affect others and  lead them to Jesus.

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Action point

Deliberately sow seeds of kindness especially to those who can never repay you.
