Spiritual Gifts & Natural Talents
Bible verse
1 Corinthians 12:7
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
During our school of wisdom for Teenagers, someone asked what is the difference between gift and Talent. I had to go and make a little research😁😊 because we often use the word, interchangeably.
Spiritual gifts are given to people that are saved, while natural talents is inherited from parents, spiritual gifts mature as you grow in grace while talents are developed with practice. Spiritual gifts come as a surprise, while natural talents are expected. If you don't possess a particular talent that runs in the family, many will be surprised why you are different. Spiritual gifts are always unexpected and when a person receives it, they are already good at it right away even when they have not been trained for it. That is how powerful the Holy Spirit is in giving spiritual gifts. The Spirit gives spiritual blessings to the one who is mature enough to receive it.(Ephesians 4:14-16).
The similarity between spiritual gifts and natural talents is that both is given by God. But spiritual gift is gotten only when you have been saved.
Spiritual Gifts and natural talents are given by God to empower us in fulfilling our purpose for him. (Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.)
Also, Both spiritual gift and talent cannot be revoked or lost (James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.)
Spiritual gifts and talents should be used for God's glory alone, and not for our selfish interests or serving the devil. I read an interesting argument on Twitter over the Week when the picture of Olu Jacob's the famous Nollyhood actor who just clocked Eighty years, he was looking feeble, old and weak. Even though everybody knows he is battling a particular ailment. What struck the argument was a kingdom guy shared Pst Kumuyi and Pst Adeboye pictures who are all in their eighties still strong and healthy said Lord, this how I want to be when am eighty and people started insulting him. The Holy Spirit ministered to me, (Psalms 92:14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;) he went on further to explain more, I am the only one that can offer, freshness long life and fulfilment. Take time and research about how worldly celebrities end up and how kingdom Men and women end up. I don't want to say men and women of God so it doesn't look like it's only Pastors that are doing kingdom work. Most of them commit suicide, die of terminal sicknesses etc, but kingdom men are mostly called home in glory. (oh what a way to go!)
Remember our studies yesterday on purpose as a key to long life and divine protection. When you use your TIME, TALENT & TREASURE for God's purpose, heaven will keep you fit to keep promoting it's agenda, until you have fully accomplished your vision and purpose. Because all the world has to offer is superficial and fleeting. You will only be remembered here, but in heaven you are a total stranger. Eternity is timeless, while our sojourn here temporary. Therefore my brother and sisters, Let's build and invest in things that have eternal values.
