Proverbs  22:1

A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

According to mobile English dictionary, Legacy is Something inherited from a predecessor or the past. One reason you must be intentional about your life is that the things you do do have eternal implications not only your life but on your descendants. We have generational curses and generational blessing. I know we are all familiar with it because we are all battling or have battled one foundational problem or the other. You go to prayer house they will tell you is a generation curse your fore fathers did this and that and now you are suffering the consequences. So we only think generational curses involved big sins like murder, rape incest, etc. Another thing is also is that we are quick to swear and lay a curse on people that it will never be well with them and their generation. Some of the things you are passing through are clearly not your fault and some blessings you are enjoying today is not as the result of your labor but reaping the good deeds of your parents or grandparents. I came across an interesting contrast between two characters in a book I was reading some times ago, and that really opened my eyes to be conscious of my actions because innocent people that come behind me will be affected.

These characters are Jonathan Edwards and the Kennedy's in America.

Jonathan Edward was one of the most noted  preachers of the early American colony. His classic message "sinners in the hands of an angry God" was so convicting that the unrepentant sitting under his preaching would cry out in anguish dropping to the flour. He was blessed with 11 children and he prayed for every child every day of his life. To prove that Edwards prayers and blessing were effective. In 1900,AE Winship tracked down 1400 descendants of Jonathan Edwards in his published study Jukes-Edwards. Winship revealed that one marriage of Edward produced an amazing lineage including 285 graduates, 300 preachers, 13 college presidents (V. C), 65 Professors(Lecturers), 100 lawyers and a dean of law school,65 medical doctors and a dean of medical school, 80 public holders of office, 3 US senators, one vice president of the US and one comptroller of the US Treasury equivalent to Central Bank governor in Nigeria. The spiritual seeds of faith, hope, righteousness and love planted into the hearts of the Edwards children Blossomed into family tree producing numerous generations of spiritual fruits.

While the Kennedys, though have been the most famous family in American politics, and yet experienced more unusual tragedies than perhaps any other noted family in the world. Joseph Kennedy Sr. had four sons, Joseph Kennedy Jr., John F Kennedy elected and assassinated, Robert F Kennedy killed after elected, Edward M Kennedy would have been elected as the US president but fate still turned against him according to one of the Kennedy sons after the death of his father that fate is against them. But was fate really against them? All these tragedies befell them because their Grandfather Joseph Kennedy Sr. Was involved in so many illegal activities, like hoarding. He became rich at the expense of others. He was the first to bring alcohol to America after it was made legal and even before it was legalized, he was smuggling it. Imagine the kind of harvoc alcohol is causing in the society and you expect all to be well with your generation. He was also involved in anti semitism the execution and total anhilation of the jews during the time of Hitler and remember the promise of God to Abraham (Genesis  12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.) imagine trying to eliminate the Jews, who God calls the apple of his eyes from the face of earth. (Zechariah  2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.) And so many atrocities had he committed. These are not the only calamity that befell them. So many his children died on notable occasions under silly and strange circumstances.

I know you might say I don't commit grave sin like Kennedy, but cheating, fornication, adultery, greed, anger, how you treat people, how you handle your position in the office, etc. if not dealt with will still pass on to your generation. I've heard so many stories of children of cruel lecturers that were denied visas, job opportunities etc because of the name what their parents did. Even in the natural Karma is real. If you are still single, pay attention to the family you want to get involved with because generational curses and blessings are real. 

What kind of business are you doing, is it improving lives or destroying lives? Is your life a cause of concern for humanity, are you part of the solution or the problems? Always remember it doesn't end with you. So lay up spiritual blessings for posterity. The world is already tough don't make it tougher for innocent children.

Father in the Name of Jesus, through your grace I choose to leave behind generational blessing for my children, my name shall open doors for them and for my sake you will establish a covenant of mercy and Favour for them. Amen.
