How Matured are you?

 Bible verse

 1 Corinthians 14:20

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

There is a difference between aging and maturity. Aging is growing old, while maturity is growing up. We have many adults who are still immature about life and does not own up to any responsibility. ( Job 32:9 Sometimes the elders are not wise.Sometimes the aged do not understand justice.) Your words and actions determine how mature you are. Words that determine maturity are:

-Ability to say No:(Matthew  5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.) This is one of the easiest way to determine one who is mature or immature. An immature person hardly say no to anything or anyone and is easily influenced by friends, society and circumstances surrounding them. They easily compromise, they have no mind of their own. It's friends, parents or spouse that decide for them even though they have come of age. No one can decide for you, even the Holy Spirit in us doesn't compel us, so why should another person be in charge of your life? The key to overcoming this is knowing yourself (Hebrews  11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;)

-Balance: Balance differentiates a child from adult. You have to balance every aspect of your life and put importance things first. Life shouldn't be about one thing only. You have to balance your life set out time for God, work and leisure. Life shouldn't be about fun and things that interests you only. (Ecclesiastes  3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:) know when it's time to be serious about your life and when to take important decisions. Don't live everything to chance. What will be May  not be how you want it to be.

-Self-Control : Learning to control your self is a major factor in maturity. You have to learn to control your emotions, temper, desires etc.( Proverbs  25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.) (Proverbs  16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.)

-Self Denial: self control and self denial are as almost the same. One's ability to be patient in life and delay gratification reveals how mature you are. So many people take rash and rapid decisions saying I can't wait. But anything done in haste will end up in regrets. And regret  always awaits the impatient man or woman. Esau lost his birthright because of impatience, king Saul lost his crown because of impatience. When you are matured spiritually you will be able to trust God when he ask you to wait. And simply work away. Matured people don't force things especially relationships.

There are also five areas that reveal your maturity life.

-physical maturity which is your age

-Mental or psychological maturity (when you possess a mind of your own and can take life decisions that are vital to you.

-Social Maturity : Ability to communicate and relate well with others. Some people are too shy and others are too straightforward both reveal immaturity. When you don't respect people no matter your age and social status, you are only revealing how immature you are.

-Financial Maturity :Ability to make, manage and multiply money. (Proverbs  21:17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.)

-spiritual Maturity : This is about your spiritual journey with God. Are you growing spiritually or you are still at the same level you were last year in your work with God?

We should all strive to mature in all these areas if we are to have joyful , fulfilling and impactful life. One thing about maturity is that it speaks for itself. (Matthew  7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.) its people that discern your maturity, and people accord you respect based on the level of your maturity in any or all of the areas mentioned above.

May God help us to strive for maturity in Jesus name.
